Volunteers from all over Thurrock gathered in Grays last week for a Royal Tea to celebrate National Volunteers’ Week.

Mayor Cathy Kent joined the group for a cup of tea, some cake and to hear peoples’ experiences of volunteering in the borough.

Councillor Kent said: “Everyone had a great time at the event today and I would like to thank everyone who came.

"I am very proud of all the volunteers and the help they provide to the local community.

"Volunteering is a fantastic asset to Thurrock and invaluable to residents of all ages for the support they receive, and also for volunteers to gain important work experience.”

Thurrock Council has over 250 volunteers helping in roles from delivering books to housebound residents to supporting local youth clubs.

National Volunteers’ Week was June 1 to June 12 2016.
