The East End came to Corringham to celebrate the Queen’s birthday with a street party last weekend.

Mayor Cathy Kent and other residents gathered at a big street party organised by the Andersons / Acres Area Community Committee on Saturday June 11 to eat traditional fish and chips and toast her Majesty’s Good Health.

Chair of the AAA Committee Jean Angus said the ‘square’ between the Andersons / Acres / Taits and Corringham Road was home to many people originally from the East End of London.

She said: “Many of the residents’ backgrounds are set in the East End, moving in in the 1960s, and it was our way of the East End coming to Corringham in celebration.

"We had children and their grandchildren … and even great grandchildren! We also enjoyed welcoming new neighbours into the area.”

The event was partly funded by a grant from Big Lottery Awards for All, Small Sparks and Essex Community Foundation, as well as photocopying provided by DP World.
