A FIREFIGHTER has today praised the cadet training course that led to a successful career.

Sam Crudgington, 22, who has been a firefighter at Corringham Fire Station for four years, told how a cadet course at Orsett Fire Station helped him gain the skills for the job.

He said: “It helped me understand the life of an ECFRS firefighter.

“Now I am experiencing that life first hand, responding to incidents across the County.”

“The course really helped me to understand and learn the skills needed to become a fully-fledged firefighter.

“I have always known from very young age that I wanted to make my community a safer place to live and the course gave me the platform I needed to achieve this.”

Recently, Mr Crudginton battled a bedroom fire in Basildon, and a road traffic collision in Langdon Hills, in just two hours.

More details on Essex County Fire and Rescue’s training course, dubbed the Cadet and Young Firefighter programme, can be found on the ECFR website.
