A CHRISTMAS crazy man has lit up his house like Vegas in a Winter Wonderland to raise funds for a Christmas Dinner for all.

Jamie Bagge, 31, of Whitmore Avenue, Grays, has transformed his house into a festive spectacle to support this year’s free Christmas dinner at Stifford Clays Primary School.

The dinner, now in its fourth year, is held every year to make sure “no-one spends Christmas Day alone.”

Last year the school event drew around 60 people and this year they are hope to reach 100 people who might otherwise spend Christmas Day alone.

Mr Bagge said he got the idea after visiting the school, and was inspired to set up a proper “Whitmore Winter Wonderland”.

The Vegas spectacle was lit up on Tuesday night with two snow machines and reindeer food selling at £1 a bag.

Mr Bagge said: “There’s one day that no-one should be alone and that’s Christmas Day. I started putting a few lights up for a few years. I live down the road from the school and I think it’s a really good thing that they do. I’m hoping that we can raise a little bit of money – people can put money in the wishing well and get a radio to play music.”

School head Anthony Peltier said: “We are wholeheartedly thankful to Mr Bagge for his event and for other anonymous donations we’ve had – this is the first year we’ve had any extra community involvement.

“We are four years down the line and getting more and more donations. Every year is a big success, last year we had 60 people come and this year we are hoping for 100.

“It’s a way of giving something back to the community, and what makes it really special is the team of volunteers who give up a couple of hours on Christmas Day to come and make it work. This year we are hoping to have enough money to give a gift to people too.

“We love it and we hope it runs for as long as the primary school is standing.”
