The family of a man who died following a collision in Victoria Avenue, Southend, have paid tribute to a “cheeky chap with a heart of gold.”

Andrew Richardson, 23, of Balmoral Road, Westcliff, died at the Royal London Hospital on October 17 following the collision on the junction with Harcourt Avenue two days earlier.

In a statement, his family said he was “one in a million” and would be sadly missed, but added they were comforted by the fact his death would improve the lives of others due to him being an organ donor.

They said: "Andy was a lovable, cheeky chap with a heart of gold who was always willing to lend a hand and loved his family very much. He loved to party with his friends but was just as happy playing football in the park with his younger brother and dad on Sundays.

"He also loved watching football on television, being at home playing with his brother and watching films.

"He supported Chelsea Football Club and was a big fan of James Bond films. We used to go as a family to the cinema to watch all the new releases, and although we will still go to the new film this month, it won’t be the same without him.

"Andy will be sadly missed by his parents, three brothers, two sisters and wider family. He was one in a million and such a colourful character. He will leave a huge hole in our lives.

"Some comfort will be gained by us all that his death will give others the chance of a better life and we know that he would find it amusing that there are still some parts of him around. Rest in peace Andy, you are our hero and we love you with all our hearts.”

A 24-year-old man from Southend was arrested on suspicion of causing injury by dangerous driving and was released on bail pending further enquiries until January 17.
