HRH The Countess of Wessex will visit a care home run by Mencap this afternoon.
The Countess, who is a patron of the learning disability charity, will be given a tour of Mellor House in Station Road, Westcliff, from 1.30pm today with Southend mayor Andrew Moring and Lord Lieutenant of Essex John Petre, the 18th Baron Petre.
She will also be introduced to staff as well as Dafydd Bowen, who donated £10,000 for a minibus for the home.
Mellor House is part of Royal Mencap Society and was opened 20 years ago by Mencap’s president Lord Rix.
It provides care and support for up to eight adults with profound and multiple learning disabilities.
The Echo will be reporting live via a Twitter feed below.
