Ukip MEP Tim Aker has slammed an MEP vote yesterday to give 'stateless' persons voting rights.

The comments from the East of England MEP came after Labour MEPs and Richard Howitt MEP for the East of England yesterday voted to amend the Ferrara Report.

The amendment reads 'stateless persons and third-country nationals permanently resident in the Member States should have the right to vote in local and European elections'.

East of England MEP Tim Aker said: "Richard Howitt and the Labour Party gave away our borders and now want voting rights for 'stateless' persons. To any right thinking person, that's a green light for more illegal immigration into the UK.

"Illegal immigration is a crime and to want to give voting rights will only incentivise illegal immigration into the UK.

"The Tories beat Labour's record on net immigration, so now Labour MEPs wish to exceed the Conservative's dismal record on illegal immigration."

"Unless we leave the EU we will continue to see ludicrous decisions like this taken from completely out of touch politicians who thrive on reducing border controls."
