PROPOSALS for the creation of a parish council on the Frost Estate in Corringham have been rejected tonight.

In a special meeting at Hassenbrook Academy in Stanford-le-Hope, councillors voted 20-17 against the proposal that would’ve seen a parish council created tasked with funding and looking after the roads in the 355 home estate.

Plans for the creation of a council surfaced two years ago and has been subject of two Thurrock Council consultations in recent months which both showed huge support for the formation of a council.

Opponents though argued that not enough facts were put forward before the consultation and people weren’t fully aware of what they were voting for.

Taking on a parish council would’ve meant residents paying a precept on their council tax – a sum which still hadn’t been decided.

Further public meetings have taken place and since a petition collected nearly 300 names against the proposal.

Councillors and members of the public in the packed school hall were told the groups for and against the proposal should work together as a charity or company that could apply to bid for funding.
