Nine fire engines were tasked to tackle a crash involving a car and a petrol tanker in Thurrock.
Three engines from Grays, two from Brentwood, two from Orsett and two from the Urban Search and Rescue team were called to the M25 at junction 30 at 12.30am today.
Crews reported that no fuel had leaked onto the carriageway.
Firefighters used specialist cutting equipment and worked with the ambulance service to release one person who was trapped.
The person was cut free by 1.45am and placed in the care of the ambulance service.
