The council has asked the public to help launch a crackdown on shops selling alcohol, tobacco and fireworks to teens.
Thurrock Council’s trading standards issued the public appeal asking residents to come forwards if they know of any shops that sell age-restricted products to minors.
Portfolio holder for public protection, Councillor Terry Brookes, said he was concerned about underage alcohol and tobacco consumption leading to anti-social behaviour in the area, as well as health issues.
Councillor Brookes said: “Our trading standards team work tirelessly to make sure residents are treated fairly, but more importantly, our residents are kept safe.
“Underage sales of tobacco and alcohol to young people can cause them to have health issues as well as impact on anti-social behaviour in an area.
“If you have any information about any shop, stall or pub supplying age restricted items to young people we want to hear from you.”
