Wild Things gathered in Thurrock libraries last week for a day of teeth-gnashing, eye-rolling and claw-showing.

Library staff and volunteers read aloud Maurice Sendak's classic children's book, Where the Wild Things Are, to small crowds of intrepid children.

The reading was organised as part of the Big Wild Rumpus 2015 campaign at 11am on Saturday June 13.

Family Learning from Grays Adult Community College also attended the Grays library event making masks and the library at Corringham also had activities.

The campaign is being run by Random House Children’s publishers and Wild Rumpus CIC, a social enterprise who produce large scale family arts events in wild natural landscapes, such as the Just So Festival.

The campaign aims to celebrate the nation's love of the classic text.

Where the Wild Things Are is a children’s picture book by American writer and illustrator Maurice Sendak, first published in 1963.
