THE Grays walk-in centre is set to close, it’s been announced.
The walk-in centre, based in the Thurrock Health Centre on the High Street, has been at the centre of a consultation over its future in recent weeks, with its future also playing a big part for candidates in the run up to the General Election.
The Thurrock Clinical Commissioning Group made the decision today at a board meeting following a consultation which ran between February and March.
The consultation gave three options: keep the centre open and carry on as before, re-tender with a new specification for the service, or close the centre and reinvest in four local GP hubs.
The closure was the preferred option of the CCG, and of Thurrock MP Jackie Doyle-Price.
Ms Doyle-Price came under criticism from her political rivals for her stance but was clear in stating she wanted to see residents across Thurrock, not just Grays, offered more health choices.
The GP service at the centre won’t be affected.
The CCG has confirmed the closure will take place in March 2016.
