THREE Thurrock schools have been graded by Ofsted in the last week, with two receiving “good” reports – the second highest available grading.

Herringham in Chadwell St Mary was praised by the education watchdog, as was Benyon Primary in South Ockendon, with both being inspected for the first time as academies.

Stanford-le-Hope Primary was rated overall as “requires improvement”, with its quality of teaching and achievements of its pupils highlighted as concerns.

Thurrock Council’s Director of Children’s Services, Carmel Littleton, said: “The council and the school have been working together closely and that work is showing results.

“The school’s overall leadership, the behaviour of its pupils and its early-years provision are all rated as good and I am confident Stanford-le-Hope will be a ‘good’ school in Ofsted terms soon.”

She added: “The report says the school has ‘high expectations of pupils’ behaviour and sets similarly high aspirations for teaching and learning’ highlighting our – and Ofsted’s – confidence for the future.”

Benyon Primary was praised for the relationship between the governors and trustees leading to a good standard of teaching.
