THE Harris Academy won £100,000 in the finals of the Pupil Premium Awards.
Earlier in the year the academy received £5,000, based on the outstanding achievement of its students from low-income backgrounds, qualifying the school for the finals.
The additional funding the school received will help it to raise the achievement of disadvantaged students further.
Last year, 87 per cent of students eligible for the premium achieved five or more good GCSEs, including English and maths. This compares to a national average of 37 per cent.
The award was presented to principal Nicola Graham by the Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg.
