Train operator c2c has topped the national table for the punctuality for the third year in a row.

Network Rail figures show 96.9 per cent of trains arrived on time for the year ending March 31.

This is a slight increase on 2013/14, when 96.7 per cent of trains were on time.

Julian Drury, c2c managing director, said: “Our sustained success in running a punctual train service is a credit to the determination and hard work of the entire c2c team.

"It’s because of these results that we are able to take customer service to the next level, with our industry-leading promise to passengers of automatic refunds when they are delayed for as little as two minutes, from the end of this year.

“This means that c2c passengers will benefit from both the UK’s best train service, and the UK’s best refund policy.”

Abellio Greater Anglia, which operates services between London and Southend Victoria, had an overall 91.1 per cent punctuality rate in 2014/15.

A commuter train is classed as punctual if it arrives at its terminating station within five minutes of its scheduled time.

  • Engineering work means trains on the c2c line are being diverted to and from Liverpool Street after 8pm every night until Thursday. For more information, visit the c2c website.
