TWO charity fundraisers were celebrating crossing the finish line at Worcester Half Marathon despite both feeling a little "ruff" in the run up.

Jackie Turner and Edward Cotton, from Worcestershire Animal Rescue Shelter, near Malvern, were both ecstatic to finish the half marathon in about two hours and ten minutes as they had both suffered injuries which affected their training.

They were also celebrating reaching their fundraising total of £500 for the shelter, which will pay for internal panelling on the dogs' outdoor shelters.

Mrs Turner, from Drakes Broughton, suffered a broken ankle in January after slipping off a kerb while running in Warndon Villages leaving her unable to train until the beginning of March.

Her running partner, Mr Cotton, from Malvern, suffered a hip injury four weeks ago and has been unable to train since.

Mr Cotton, the shelter's deputy manager, said: "We did really well considering one of us had recovered from a broken ankle and the other had bruised their hip.

"I think if Jackie hadn't broken her ankle then she would have definitely crossed the line in under two hours.

"I had a nasty fall while playing football about three or four weeks ago.

"My whole hip was black and blue so I hadn't trained since then.

"On Wednesday and Thursday I did a couple of runs in Wales during a break but that's been it.

"But when you're running with someone like Jackie who has done the marathon it makes it a bit easier and it was good fun."

Mr Cotton said the cheers from the crowds managed to get the pair around the route.

"The wind was horrific. It was in the front of us and it just followed us around which didn't really help.

"But it was brilliant - I really enjoyed it."

The pair managed to raise £250 on the Just Giving site and the rest came from sponsorship forms at the centre and Best Friends Veterinary Surgery in Malvern.
