Running for Ryan

12:10pm Tuesday 27th March 2007

MORE than 170 people took part in the Chafford Hundred five kilometre fun run on Sunday (March 25) in aid of the Ryan Cassar Appeal.

In excess of £2,000 was raised for the appeal, set up by Ryan's family to raise £200,000 for a mobile CAT scanner for Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital, in the hope that it may help other children who suffer similar injuries.

Ryan, 12, from Camden Road, Chafford Hundred, died when he was hit by a car while crossing Elizabeth Road, Grays, close to the Treacle Mine roundabout in January last year.

Events Manager, Belinda Lowe, said: "We were overwhelmed with the response and that so many people wanted to take part and support the cause.

"A fantastic amount of money has already been raised and we still have pledges to collect.

"I would like to thank every one who entered, the volunteers and anyone else who helped to raise so much money."

For those who still need to send in their sponsorship money, please contact Belinda Lowe at chaffordevents@hotmail.co.uk.
