THE “ghostbusters” are coming to Tilbury.

Paranormal investigation team Gcuk SouthEast will be putting Coalhouse Fort under the spotlight.

The night is being put on to help find out – once and for all – if ghosts really do reside in the fort.

The team of investigators, mediums and researchers – including one sceptic – will try to find out exactly what is “out there”.

Members of the public who want to find ghosts and ghouls can go along from 9pm, on Saturday, April 18, to 1am to visit the fort and try to separate fact from fiction.

Gcuk SouthEast lead investigator Rachael Darby said: “We chose Coalhouse Fort because I used to visit it as a child and always wondered what was behind that great, mysterious door.”

She would not reveal any more, in case it spoiled people’s experiences on the night, adding: “We can’t promise paranormal activity, but what we can promise is a really good night where people get to visit really interesting environments and make lots of new friends.”

Gcuk started out as a northern organisation, and due to the popularity of its “ghost” visits, set up a South East branch, based in Southend, a year ago.

Mrs Darby will also be working with popular TV programme Most Haunted in a few weeks when it visits the Harwich Redoubt fort.

She said: “When you stand in these places and soak up the atmosphere, it’s just fascinating.

“Our sceptic gets really upset when he can’t debunk something.”

Gcuk’s last visit to Harwich resulted in the group being smothered with the smell of oranges and the sceptic would not stop checking people’s clothes and bags for the fruit.

Researchers said they found out later the fort had often been visited by women from a nearby village, bringing oranges to alleviate the prisoners’ scurvy.
