A MOBILITY scooter has been pimped up to look like the Batmobile.

James Martin, 40, from Old Leigh, spent £3,500 doing up the scooter to make it look like the caped crusader’s car.

James created it for superherothemed parties at Bournemouth University five years ago, but since moving back to Southend in 2013 he decided to sell it.

He auctioned it off on eBay for just £200 over the Easter weekend, but has no regrets about the money he spent on it.

He said: “I had it hand-built in fibreglass by a boat builder and then painted by a car body shop, with the LED lights, a siren and front flashing lights.

“It’s something I don’t really want to get rid of, but I’m not using it for what it’s designed for and I wanted someone else to get enjoyment out of it.

“It would be fantastic if it went to a child, who could have lots of fun on it.”

Born in Rochford, James grew up in Southend and Basildon before living in various locations around the country before getting a job with James Sinclair’s Partyman Company as promotions and marketing manager.

He said he decided to return to the borough because he missed his friends and family.

James said he was pleased the scooter had sold for his target price.

He said: “Hopefully it’s going to a good home to be enjoyed.

“I don’t understand why the scooter companies aren’t making these scooters for disabled kids as well.”
