POLICE divers last night recovered from a lake the bodies of two men

thought to be the victims of a boating accident.

Scotland Yard said the bodies were found by an underwater search team

combing the bed of Savay Lake in Denham, Harefield, north-west London.

The first body was discovered by divers at 9.35pm and the second 10

minutes later.

A police spokeswoman said officers were trying to contact next of kin

for a formal identification before the names of the dead are released.

A woman raised the alarm at 2.30pm when a 12-ft flat-bottomed punt

capsized on the lake, a former sand-pit used for fishing.

Police, fire and ambulance crews arrived and began a search for two

men believed to have been aboard. Two other men thought to have been on

the boat swam to safety.

Meanwhile, a teenager who jumped into the Thames in front of a crowded

pub was presumed drowned yesterday.

The youth leaped into the water at The Swan pub in Pangbourne,

Berkshire. While onlookers watched the river surface, emergency

services, including a police helicopter and frogmen, joined the search.

Staff at the pub declined to comment on reports that the incident

followed a #25 wager.
