A FORMER hospital porter was yesterday remanded in custody accused of

causing an explosion in London. Mr John Gerrard Matthews, 22, unemployed

was arrested after a mini-cab driver was hijacked in Seven Sisters,

London, and ordered to go to Downing Street. The car was finally

abandoned in Judd Street, Holborn, where it blew up. The explosion

occurred 14 hours after a one-ton bomb in a tipper lorry in Bishopsgate

on April 24 killed one man and injured more than 40.
