PLANS for the regeneration of Purfleet have moved a step closer with the announcement of a funding partner.

The multi-million pound plans will see the development of a film and TV studio andup to 3,000 new homes, as well as the regeneration of the town centre.

At last night's full council meeting Councillor Richard Speight said the council's development partner Purfleet Centre Regeneration Limited (PCRL) had selected its preferred funding partner... but "commercial confidence" meant their name couldn't be disclosed.

A report suggests building on the site could begin next year, with the first homes ready by 2018.

Mr Speight said: “I am delighted to announce PCRL has just selected its preferred funding partner for the first phase of the Purfleet Centre proposals.

“I can confirm they are a major player within the regeneration sector who - together with their investment of £25 million - will bring significant experience in supporting the development of dynamic and sustainable communities.”

He added: “Our collective aim now is to conclude the due diligence processes and refine the various agreements required over the coming weeks to formally secure the funding and move on into the delivery phase of the project.”

Furhter promised facilities for the new town centre include a supermarket, primary school, health centre and leisure facilities.

The plans for Purfleet came another step along two months ago when Michael Gove visited the High House Production Park to announce a £5 million grant for Purfleet regeneration.
