A DECISION on whether to grant an estate in Corringham parish council status has been delayed until after the election.

A last-minute recommendation put forward by council leader John Kent asked for the decision to be halted so that residents of the Frost Estate, councillors, officers and highways could get together to discuss outstanding issues.

The Frost Estate Neighbourhood Council have been wanting such action to take place for a number of years, mainly to gain control of the repair work of their roads on what is a private estate.

The estate, which is private, is made up of 11 roads. A recent consultation suggested 70 percent of residents were in favour of parish council status being granted. A large number of residents though were against the proposal, or didn’t answer the consultation.

The Conservative group were unhappy with the decision, and argued that the estate has already gone through two consultations – with both coming back in favour of the parish council.

Mr Kent though said by the granting parish council status now, it was being “set-up to fail” with such a large number against the proposal, adding a further public meeting would answer questions and concerns for residents.
