THE Forum in Southend has been shortlisted for another award.

The library in Elmer Square was created through a joint project between Essex University and Southend Council and has been nominated in the Buildings that Inspire category of the Guardian University Awards.

Now in its third year, the awards showcase the outstanding innovation and impact of UK universities across the higher education sector in delivering world-class teaching, research and engagement.

It follows on from the Forum being nominated for the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors regional award.

Southend campus manager Zoe Manning said: “Our students and staff love the Forum, which is the beating heart of our Southend campus.

“Not only do students have the best possible library and independent study facilities, they also have great spaces for group working and practising presentations.

“The building is full of life and activity and creates a real buzz.”

Graham Longley, councillor responsible for development, said: “We are delighted this groundbreaking project has been recognised so significantly it has been shortlisted for these prestigious awards, and we are very proud to stand alongside the university and college in this achievement.”

The university’s LGBT Alliance is also shortlisted, for the Advancing Staff Equality award, for its work, in partnership with Essex-based employers, in creating a network for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people living and working across the county.

The winners will be announced on March 18.
