SOME of the magic of Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre can be enjoyed in Thurrock next month when a live broadcast of the classic Jacobean play, the Duchess of Malfi is screened in a local cinema.

For one night only at the Vue Thurrock you can see Gemma Arterton and other leading actors performing at the traditional Tudor theatre by candlelight.

The critically-acclaimed production of John Webster’s macabre play will be simulcast to Vue Thurrock, at Lakeside Shopping Centre onMarch 9.

The show is the latest in the Shakespeare’s Globe on Screen series, following last season’s sell-out success.

Globe on Screen promises the chance to enjoy “the best seat in the house” in the comfort of a local cinema, bringing the magic of the worldfamous Globe Theatre, in full surround- sound.

Gemma Arterton stars as the Duchess, in a production created especially for the Globe’s new indoor space, with 250 candles used to create an intimate and authentic atmosphere.

As such, it will be the first theatrical production ever to be filmed entirely by candelight. The play, a tale of love and intrugue, directed by Dominic Dromgoole, also features Sean Gilder as Bosola, David Dawson as Ferdinand and James Garnon as the Cardinal.
