A WOMAN has been taken to hospital after a crash on a main road.
The woman, in her eighties, was understood to have been driving a blue Skoda Fabia along Highlands Boulevard, Leigh, when it collided with a black Range Rover just after noon.
Fire crews from Leigh and Rayleigh Weir were called to the scene and East of England Ambulance sent an ambulance crew and a paramedic.
A fire spokesman said the woman was trapped in the car as a result of the Range Rover having 'T-boned' the car on the driver's side and paramedics were concerned about her suffering potential back injuries.
She was eventually released from the car and taken to Southend Hospital at about 1.30pm.
Highlands Boulevard is blocked as a result of the crash and police remain on the scene while the vehicles are recovered.
