Thurrock Council is trying to woo back social workers who have left the profession.

The plan is to entice former social workers back into employment by launching a new ten-day course.

The Return to Social Work course will start in March, and offer qualified social workers the chance to brush up on their skills and get up to date with new legislation.

Cllr Bukky Okunade said: “It has been increasingly difficult to recruit social workers, but we are rethinking our approach by taking steps to get qualified social workers back into this demanding, but highly rewarding profession."

“The course is designed to give qualified social workers an opportunity to re-acquaint themselves with working in children’s social care."

“People who successfully complete the course have the possibility of joining our team as a permanent member of staff.”
