TWO Vulcan enthusiasts had their wedding photos taken with the aircraft.

Bob Langhorn and Maggie Stewart, from Hockley, had the photos taken with the XL426 plane at Southend Airport after tying the knot at Castle Point Register Office.

They attended the Vulcan Restoration Trust’s first open day last year and Maggie has since become an administrator for the trust.

Secretary Richard Clarkson said: “We met Bob and his then fiancee Maggie last year when they sat in the cockpit for the aircraft’s live power-up.

“She had previously bought him Vulcan Restoration Trust membership as a Christmas present.

“We’re delighted they chose XL426 as the backdrop for their big day!”

Maggie added: “We really appreciated the team at the Vulcan coming along on our special day and every time we see XL426 now we can remember what a great time we had on our wedding day.”

The trust’s Vulcan remains on display and a number of open days are being planned this year.

The group became a registered charity in 1996 and maintains the XL426 in full ground working condition, meaning while it is not airworthy, its systems – including its engines – are kept in operating condition.

It also educates the public about the Vulcan and the role it played in the Cold War.

The strategic bomber was used by the Royal Air Force from 1956 to 1984 and featured the same delta wing technology which was later used on the Concorde.
