Stifford Clays Primary School in Thurrock are opening their doors on Christmas Day to welcome those who will be spending Christmas alone.

The school is expecting more than 50 people to come to its Christmas dinner - with all food generously donated by Tescos.

The event - which is open to all - is organised annually by Anthony Peltier, Headteacher of Stifford Clays Primary School.

Mr Peltier said: "We just don't like to think of people spending Christmas alone and have opened our doors to welcome people who might otherwise be cold, hungry or lonely."

The dinner relies on generous donations from local businesses and groups to run and this year the school has extended its thanks to the Rotary Club and Stifford Community Forum for their contributions.

The school would like to give a special thank you to Tescos for donating over £700 worth of food.

Mr Peltier added: "I couldn't believe it when the Tescos delivery men with their food bags just turned up and started unloading. There were so many of them!"
