FIREFIGHTERS scrambled to a Leigh restaurant after its roof caught fire.
Two crews from Rayleigh Weir and another from Leigh were called to the Old Vienna restaurant on Eastwood Road, Leigh, just after midnight after a large number of calls from members of the public.
Once they arrived, the incident commander requested a fourth engine with an aerial ladder platform to help firefighters tackle the blaze, which was about 60m by 30m and confined to the roof space of the building.
The fire was out by 12.34am, after firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels to tackle the flames, and remained on site for some time conducting salvage operations.
No-one is believed to have been hurt in the fire and the restaurant was closed at the time of the incident.
