THURROCK is the fourth most improved local authority in the country for the number of primary school pupils attending good or outstanding schools.

It has climbed 25 places in Ofsted's primary school rankings, to 122nd out of 150, Ofsted's annual report shows.

And as the Gazette revealed last week, the percentage of youngsters living in the borough who attend a good or outstanding primary school is now at 74 per cent.

This is an improvement of 14 per cent on last year and an improvement of more than 40 per cent in the last four years.

Only Peterborough, Souuth Tyneside and Kensington and Chelsea have shown greater improvement than Thurrock in the last 12 months.

The borough's secondary schools also continue to perform very well.

It is now 17th in the secondary school rankings nationally, up one place on last year, with an impressive 93 per cent of pupils in good or outstanding secondary schools.

Ofsted's annual report comes almost two weeks after the first ever awards ceremony celebrating education succes in Thurrock was held at the Backstage Centre in Purfleet.
