A CONCORDE pilot regaled members of an aviation society at their annual Christmas event.
Captain John Hutchinson spoke at the Vulcan Restoration Trust’s event at Hawkwell Village Hall on Saturday, describing what it was like to fly the supersonic aircraft, which had the same delta wing design as the Vulcan bomber.
He also offered his thoughts on the Concorde air crash in Paris in 2000, which eventually led to the retirement of the airline, as well as offering his opinions on the causes of the crash.
Trust secretary Richard Clarkson said: “We were privileged to have John Hutchinson at our Christmas fundraising event for Vulcan XL426 at London Southend Airport.
“It was greatly enjoyed by our members and guests and a great way to raise money for the important restoration work we do on the Vulcan aircraft by our dedicated team of volunteers.”
Cpt Hutchinson said: “I am happy to help support the Vulcan Restoration Trust and to talk to other lovers of delta winged aircraft with these two icons of the air, the Vulcan Bomber and the genius design of Concorde.”
