THIS week, we spoke to Lyn- Marie Owen, sales consultant at Virgin Holidays, in Tesco, Cygnet View, Lakeside...

Q: What do you love about Thurrock?

A: Thurrock is a diverse area with friendly people who are willing to help you out with anything.

Q: What has kept you here?

A: I have lived here for seven years and have been made to feel welcome from the start.

Why move when you are happy?

Q: How do you see the future for your business in the borough?

A: I can see us doing really well. With the support of the community and the Virgin brand, we will make things happen.

Q: How do you think other parts of Essex see Thurrock?

A: Up and coming. We are expanding and looking to the future.

Q: What advice would you give to people wanting to set up their own business here?

A: Just do it. There is no time like the present. You are in the best location with easy access to the A13, M25 and London.

Q: What made you start your business here?

A: Virgin has spotted an opportunity to utilise the space that was available within Tesco’s second exit and made it a one-stop shop where you can do your shopping and book your holiday at the same time.

We have our own little shop.

Q: What community involvement does the business have?

A: Virgin is all about the people and the environment. We are looking into greener ways to do things, such as getting the new Dreamliner, as this uses less fuel than a standard aircraft.

Q: What’s your view on the Gazette?

A: The Gazette is all about the local people and the community and what matters to them.
