CAN there be a greater sacrifice than to give up your life for your country?

Putting politics, and personal opinions, aside, the men and women who have fought for our way of life in the many bloody conflicts this country has been involved in must never, ever, be forgotten.

The feelings run incredibly deep, especially in this, the 100th year since the Great War.

And, particularly in our proud borough of Thurrock.

This weekend, through until next Tuesday, there are many memorial services planned here. (See below)

Many members of our community have been preparing and going that extra mile to make sure an event will happen in their area of the borough this weekend.

Whatever your feelings on war, whether it is right or wrong, the simple fact is hundreds of thousands of people have fought, and died, to protect the way of life we enjoy today.

They have made the ultimate sacrifice.

None of us have any excuse this weekend, but to turn out and show them the respect they deserve.
