ST CLERE's Academy has been rated good by Ofsted following a recent inspection.

The secondary school in Stanford-le-Hope is one of the first in Thurrock to be inspected against the tough new framework Ofsted introduced in September.

But the school received a resounding good in all areas, with inspectors noting areas of outstanding areas of teaching.

Thre recent report also found:

  • Students achieve well. They reach above-average standards by the end of Year 11. This represents good progress in relation to their starting points which are average and sometimes below average.
  • The development of students’ literacy and numeracy skills is particularly good
  • Leaders and governors have a very accurate view of the academy’s strengths and remaining areas for improvement

Ashlie Hughes, the school's headteacher, said: "Even under this new, demanding framework, Ofsted were able to recognise the excellent work that takes place at St Clere’s.

"The achievement of more able students, who do particularly well at St Clere’s, has risen even more this year and is well above national average.

"Ofsted praised the learning that takes place here and the everyday relationships that exist between students and their peers as well as students and staff. The co-operative values of respect and equality, which underpin St Clere’s were evident throughout the inspection."
