A LITTLE Thurrock pub has been named CAMRA'S Pub of the Year for South West Essex.

Traitors Gate in Broadway received the honour last night, when CAMRA - short for Campaign for Real Ale - popped by the popular drinking-hole to hand owner Ben Deverell, his business partner Mick and manager Vinny Belt the award.

It is the third time the pub, which is run by Deverell's Brewery, located in the Globe Industrial Estate less than 100 metres from the pub, has won the award.

Deverell's only took over the pub a year ago.

Anne Radley, Chairman of the SW Essex Branch of CAMRA, said: "We are here in the Traitor’s Gate tonight to celebrate the winning of our Pub of the Year Competition.

"This pub is no stranger to the award having won it in 2005 and again in 2010, the pub has continued to thrive under the new management so please accept our congratulations, and hope you continue to provide Little Thurrock with an outstanding community pub serving outstanding Real Ale."

A delighted Ben said: "I have to thank my whole family and the team behind Deverells.  We are proud of our pub and our beers – it’s a great thing to be rewarded for so much hard work."

Deverell's makes and serves real ale for the Traitor's Gate, Thurrock Beer Festival and other local pubs.

The Traitor's Gate often hosts live music and holds an open mic night regularly.
