FIVE brave volunteers will be locked in a dog kennel for 24 hours on Saturday to highlight the plight of stray and unwanted dogs.

The event which is organised by the German Shepherd Rescue Elite will take place at Crystalvale Kennels, Horndon on the Hill from 11am.

The volunteers will be exercised the same as the dogs, fed twice a day and will only have water to drink.

Sleeping bags are also banned with simple dog bedding being provided.

Toilet breaks will also be the same as the dogs with lamp posts provided.

GSRE is a registered charity working to rescue and re-home all German Shepherd dogs nationally and aims to prevent any stray or unwanted dog from being put to sleep.

Volunteer Diane Tween said: “I am hoping to raise as much money as possible for the charity and I’ve already been to the vet for my kennel cough inoculation.

“My husband has suggested I should also be micro chipped.”
