THURROCK Council has embarked on a project with a cross-European group of organisations in a bid to share knowledge.

The council has joined in on a programme called Animate which is a cross generational transfer of knowledge, taking skills from the older population and supporting the younger generation to learn new skills.

It involves Hi-Iberia Ingenieria y Proyectos SL - a Spanish software development company; The Institute for Biomedical Research in Lleida (IRBLLeida), also from Spain; The University of Geneva and the Advanced Systems Group, from Switzerland; and Thurrock Council and eLearning Studios from the United Kingdom.

Michelle Taylor, a Telecare Specialist Practitioner with Thurrock’s adult social care team, said: “We are on the lookout for volunteers; people who may have ideas or would like to be involved in transferring or receiving knowledge using technology.

“At the moment we’re still at the very early stages and are focusing on professional carers and dementia.

“We have had one group meeting, but over the next three years we’re confident we can put together a programme that will benefit everyone – those taking part, those who work with people taking part and far, far further afield in all areas of work and life.”

Anybody interested in taking part in the programme, or who has ideas about how it could work, should call 01375 652611 or email animate@thurrock.gov.uk Funding for the project in Britain comes from Innovate UK - the Technology Strategy Board - the UK's innovation agency which funds, supports and connects innovative businesses through a unique mix of people and programmes to accelerate sustainable economic growth.
