FED-UP residents in Corringham are furious after parts of their roads were left with holes after being dug up almost a month earlier for gas main replacement work.

Families in Princes Avenue, Goldsmiths Avenue, Monks Haven, Bibby Close, Park Road and Giffords Cross Road have had trouble parking outside their homes for four weeks because National Grid is carrying out work.

David Geddes, 68, of Giffords Cross Road, says it has been chaotic.

He said: “I understand work needs to be carried out.

But it is the way they are doing it. They dig up one road and then, without filling the hole, they move on to another road.

“It’s hard to get in and out of the road and kids can’t play out safely. We shouldn’t have to put up with this.”

A spokesman for National Grid said vital gas mains work was being carried out.

He said: “Ageing gas mains are being replaced with new, tough pipes, which should last for many years.

“This essential work will help ensure the local community continues enjoying safe and reliable gas supplies.”

Work is now complete in Princes Avenue, Goldsmiths Avenue and Monks Haven.

The work is due to completed in Bibby Close and Park Road later this month, while the work in Giffords Cross Road is due to be completed in November.

Mr Geddes said: “The fact work on my road will continue into next month is a bit of a joke.

“This is a main road!”
