A WOMAN left scarred after being attacked by six men in South Ockendon is appealing for witnesses.

Karen Mendrys, 38, was walking home from work, along Fairham Avenue, when she passed a group of men standing at the edge of Dilkes Park.

The mother-of-five cut through the park on her way home and the group followed her. She was tripped up, knocked unconscious and believes her face may have been stamped on.

She said: “I was walking to my car when it happened. Next thing I was being attacked. By the next day I couldn’t even see.

“The bruising on my face has gone down now, but I’m on antidepressants and I don’t want to leave the house.

“It’s been horrible. I’ve had ongoing nightmares. I’m screaming in my sleep and I don’t even realise I’m doing it. I’ve never felt so low.”

Mrs Mendrys said she was desperate tomove on from the terrifying incident, on Wednesday, September 24, between 9.30pm and 10.30pm, and wants the attackers brought to justice.

She added: “It has affected my entire family. We’re all being punished by what happened. I want to move on with my life.”

PC Emma Ridings said: “There were two people in the park who may have seen what happened.

“One was a man riding a mountain bike and the other is a man walking two small lightcoloured dogs.

“I would like these possible witnesses to get in touch with me, but I would also be grateful for information from anyone who may know anything about what happened.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Ridings at Grays on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
