PEOPLE across Thurrock took part in the Macmillan Coffee Morning to raise cash for the cancer charity on Friday.

Pupils and staff at Grays Convent High School, in College Avenue, were among those who took part in the annual cake and coffee fundraiser.

Cakes were sold during break and the school managed to raise £280.

Members of the Freeman Court Complex, in Stanford-le-Hope, raised £1,165 with their coffee morning.

Linda Barfield, from Freeman Court, said: “We started at the beginning of the year by saving our 10p coins to see if we could cover our hall floor.

“We raised £405 just in 10ps. The rest of the money raised was by running raffles, balloon pops, manicures, also cooking lunch for 25 people. We had guessing games and not forgetting all the homemade cakes donated and sold.”

The Stifford Clays branch of Weight Watchers raised £430 with its coffee morning at the Stifford Clays Social Club.
