THE Stoptober jugglers, Mark Abbott and Johnny Wright, were at Lakeside on Sunday bringing their personal experiences of quitting cigarettes to shoppers.

The event was part of the national campaign, but locally the large red Stoptober ball has been making regular appearances across the borough this September signalling the campaign with local stop smoking specialists Vitality on hand to give advice.

In the spirit of bringing fun to this year’s campaign the ball is being rolled out each day in a surprise venue.

The first person to spot the ball, take a photo and tweet to #thurrockstoppers will be in with a chance of a prize.

At Lakeside on Sunday, Mark and Jonny taught potential quitters how to juggle in four minutes, the average time of a cigarette break.

In all, 169 people signed up for the 28-day stop smoking challenge on the day joining many others in Thurrock who’ve pledged to go without cigarettes in October.

Stoptober provides smokers with a range of free tools including a new stop smoking pack, a 28-day mobile phone app, text support with daily updates, quitting advice and tips for coping, as well as the encouragement and support from thousands of people quitting together through Stoptober social media channels.
