A third man has been charged in the Tilbury Docks death container case.

Martin McGlinchey, aged 47, of Coalisland, Dungannon, in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, has been charged with conspiring to facilitate illegal entry into the United Kingdom.

He follows two other male lorry drivers from Northern Ireland who have been arrested on the same charges last month.

On August 16, a container featuring 35 Afghan Sikhs was found at the port, having arrived from Belgium.

One man died while Basildon Hospital declared an emergency in tending to the rest of the group, many of whom were young children.

This weekend, Police have raided a suspected fuel laundering plant in County Tyrone, in an operation linked to the investigation.

In follow-up searches, police have found a suspected fuel laundering plant and 1350 litres of fuel in Coalisland.

The facility, which was said to have been capable of producing 1000 of illicit fuel per day, has been dismantled.

Mr McGlinchey will appear in Basildon Magistrates Court tomorrow.
