HUNDREDS of children turned up at the Big Lunch in Grays Town Park last month to learn about the importance of road safety at the event.

The council’s road safety team were on hand to speak with around 400 kids and their parents about crossing roads safely.

Road safety colouring sheets and pencils were handed out as well as Thurrock Travel caps, drinks bottles and bugs.

The youngsters were also able to enter a competition where they had to draw and colour a school crossing patrol.

Three winners were invited to come along to the Civic Offices in Grays on Tuesday, August 12, to collect their prizes from Cllr Steve Liddiard, the Mayor of Thurrock. He handed over a Thurrock Travel blue bag and teddy bear along with a ruler, pencil and eraser.

The children and their parents were shown around the council chambers before receiving their prizes in the Mayor’s Parlour.
