SHOPPERS and staff members came together at Lakeside shopping centre on Monday to commemorate 100 years since the start of the First World War.
Mayor Steve Liddiard attended the service, led by the Royal British Legion, and a two-minute silence was observed underneath a new art installation of 3,500 poppies.
Each poppy features a poem written by schoolchildren and will remain in the central atrium throughout August.
Paul Lancaster, from intu Lakeside, said: “Local schoolchildren wrote some very moving poetry.”
