A HANDFUL of athletes from the south of the county were in action for Essex at the under-13 Southern Intercounties match at Kingston, Surrey.
Southend High School for Girls’ sprinter Uche Okafor had a good day, winning the 100m in 13.09s and finishing second in the 200m (26.98s).
Southend AC’s Shona Gonese was third in the B-string 100m (13.79s) and second in the A-string 70m hurdles with a time of 11.70s.
Southend AC’s Felicity Galbally was seventh in the 800m (2m 31.71s) while her team-mate Eleanor Butt was sixth in the discus (22.93m) and 10th in the javelin (23.17m).
In the boys section, Southend High School for Boys’ Tom Farquharson won the 75m hurdles in a time of 12.34s with his school mate Michael Akhigbe third in the B-string event in 12.65s.
Akhigbe also won the B-string long jump with a leap of 5.11m.
