TRANSPORT for London are consulting on a number of options for new river crossings in East London.

And Thurrock MP Jackie Doyle-Price has welcomed a look at those options and contributed to the department's consultation.

Any new crossings have the potential to ease congestion in West Thurrock and at the Dartford Crossing.

A new crossing at Silvertown is already planned and detailed consultation will take place later this year.

In addition TFL are inviting views on new ferry services at Woolwich and Gallions Reach and new tunnels or bridges at Belvedere and Gallions Reach.

Ms Doyle-Price said: "I have responded to say that Transport for London should be looking at the new crossings at Belvedere and Gallions Reach.

"The Belvedere crossing to Dagenham offers the potential for significant regeneration and will alleviate congestion at the Dartford crossing.

"That said, if this option is explored there will need to be investment in the supporting road infrastructure as this will add to congestion on the A13 without it. As it is there is often serious delays from Ripple road tailing back to Dagenham, as regular users will know.

"I am pleased also that TFL are looking at the potential for new ferry services. I think that the Department of Transport would do well to look at the potential afforded by ferries to expand crossing capacity in the Lower Thames."
