MORE than 200 slimmers will be supporting Race for Life in aid of cancer research – and want you to join them.

The members of all 16 Slimming World groups in Thurrock will be running 1km, 3km, 5km or more at Thurrock Harriers Athletic Track on July 25 in aid of Cancer Research UK.

Although the charity runs its Race for Life events for women only, Slimming World is holding its own event with both men and women taking part and is inviting everyone to join them, whether they are a part of the group or not, taking part or spectating.

Participants can even choose how they wish to complete the non-competitive race, whether by running, walking, cycling, skating or – as Thurrock team developer Samantha Lawton is doing – bouncing on a space hopper.

Appealing to Thurrock residents, she said: “We’d love anyone in Thurrock to join us whether they’re young, old, male or female and whatever their current fitness level.

“One in three people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime and research has shown that many types of cancer are more common in people who are overweight.

“Cancer touches so many people’s lives and at Slimming World we’re determined to do anything we can to help people lead healthier lives in whatever way possible.

“That’s why I’m so pleased that my group is getting behind this event and encouraging others to do the same.”
