A CYCLIST has been airlifted to hospital after being hit by a car in Chadwell St Mary.
The female driver of a white Ford Fiesta collided with the female cyclist - said to be in her 40s.
Brentwood Road in Chadwell St Mary was closed after the accident which happened shortly before midday.
A cordon was set up at the scene, between Linford Road and Claudian Way. An ambulance and rapid response vehicle attended along with Hertfordshire Air Ambulance.
Police say both women involved in the collision were local.
A spokesperson for the East of England Ambulance Service said: "The woman suffered head injuries and was airlifted to Queens Hospital in a serious condition."
An Ensignbus was inside the cordon. The bus firm is still reporting delays and diversions to its Route 33 and 66 services.
The road reopened shortly before 3pm.
