New school will provide "education with drive and ambition"

THE new secondary free school will provide "education with drive and ambition for local families", the boss of the federation behind the plans has pledged.

The government has given Harris Federation the green light to set up a secondary free school in Chafford Hundred, next to its "outsanding" Harris Academy Chafford Hundred school in Mayflower Road.

Sir Dan Moynihan, Chief Executive of the Harris Federation, said: "We are delighted that the new secondary school has been approved to open in September 2015 by the government.

"Like the existing Harris Secondary Academy in Chafford Hundred, which is oversubscribed with around four applications for every place, it will provide education with drive and ambition for local families."

The Chafford Hundred Secondary Free School will accomodate more than 1,100 pupils.

It will share an executive principal and governing body with Harris Academy and will initially be located on a "high quality but temporary site" next door.

Plans for the school have been developed by a steering group. There are currently four applications for every place at the Harris Academy, which is widely regarded as one of the top performing schools in the region.

Sir Moynihan said: "We are hugely looking forward to opening the school next year and will be working closely with the local community in the meantime.  Admissions will open in September 2014."

Does anyone believe this advertising? They may well be good at dealing with OFTED's pointless paperwork but that doesn't make for a great school in the real world.

People need to realise that the key factor of how well a child does at school is home background. Yes, if you read and have been to University so will your child as the child will have learnt many important skills from you. Schools are merely about putting a child through curriculum hoops...

Note the current MPs concern with the idea that working class children under perform at schools - why?. Parents haven't been to University and there are no books in the house and so on...

How utterly ridiculous, so they are going to build it on the site of the current School removing the already modest sports facilities.

The local council is a mess, more infrastructure is what is needed, Mayflower road is already overwhelmed with traffic and another 1,100 kids being dropped by their mums everyday will just make the whole area a no go zone twice a day.
